Figure 3. The four elements of chemo brain recovery

The recovery model has a well-defined rationale.  It begins with establishing a clear sense of purpose—the belief that you can achieve superior brain health, even in the face of permanent damage.   The model is supported by research from the 1970’s and forward, drawn from a number of disciplines.  The research upon which I based the plan presented in this book strongly suggests that

psychological processes and content,

spiritual orientation,

physical training and exertion,

dietary changes and nutritional supplements

can be combined to generate new brain structure that functions at least as well as before the cancer diagnosis.

Emotional/Spiritual

Emotions are powerful. Just as they contribute to disease and illness, they can contribute to health and well-being. Being in a positive emotional state needs to be a daily goal and something you begin to work on before getting out of bed. Supplements and exercise can help your emotions, but the first step is recognizing their importance and being aware when you slide down the emotional ladder. Spiritual beliefs and actions are also a core aspect of who we are. They provide a sense of purpose as well as security. I encourage you to develop a spiritual side that encourages positive emotions about yourself and your sense of purpose during your lifetime, and less about guilt, blame, and shame.

Diet and Supplements

What you eat becomes part of your body and your brain. It affects every aspect of your biological life, including your cells. Recovery from chemo brain as well as cancer MUST include modifications to your diet, in order to change your biochemistry. The following is a complete list of changes to your diet and supplements to your diet that are proven to enable recovery with a healthy mind, body and spirit. . .
